Ted 2

The sequel to the talking teddy bear comedy, "Ted 2", revisits John Bennett and his foul-mouthed best friend Ted as they embark on a legal battle to prove Ted's personhood in order to adopt a child. The film's core concept, exploring themes of civil rights and what it means to be human through the lens of a sentient teddy bear, holds a certain appeal and provides a foundation for its narrative. However, the execution of this premise often feels stretched and serves primarily as a framework for a series of disconnected gags.

Seth MacFarlane's directorial style is competent, allowing the comedic performances to take centre stage, but the screenplay frequently struggles with pacing and narrative coherence. The humour, a blend of pop culture references, gross-out jokes, and irreverent observations, is highly inconsistent; while some moments land effectively and elicit genuine laughs, others fall flat or feel forced. Mark Wahlberg delivers a committed performance as John, maintaining a believable chemistry with his CGI co-star, and Amanda Seyfried is a welcome addition to the cast, bringing a fresh dynamic.

Despite these strong performances, the film's reliance on a thin plot and often crude dialogue prevents it from achieving the consistent comedic impact of its predecessor. Ultimately, "Ted 2" offers intermittent amusement for those receptive to its specific brand of humour, but it struggles to maintain engagement across its runtime due to its narrative shortcomings.
