It depends on your taste. HB Reviews rates it 2.5/5 and found its entertainment value uneven.
Despite the return of a legacy character and some strong performances, 'Scream 7' struggles with a convoluted plot and uninspired writing, making it a disappointing entry in the long-running horror franchise.
The latest instalment in the 'Scream' franchise, 'Scream 7', sees the return of Sidney Prescott, who finds her new life upended when a new Ghostface killer targets her daughter. While the premise offers a familiar hook, the film's execution is widely criticised for its lack of creative storytelling and a convoluted narrative that fails to engage. Many critics found the script to be lifeless and shallow, with dialogue that often feels awkward and underdeveloped new characters who lack distinguishing characteristics.
The killer reveal, a hallmark of the series, is frequently described as nonsensical and one of the weakest in the franchise's history. However, the film isn't entirely without merit. Neve Campbell's performance as Sidney Prescott is consistently praised, with many noting her ability to elevate the material and deliver a strong portrayal of the iconic final girl.
Isabel May also receives positive mentions for her performance as Sidney's daughter. Director Kevin Williamson, returning to the franchise in this capacity, manages to conjure some expertly handled suspense sequences, providing isolated moments of genuine tension. The production quality is noted as generally high, and Marco Beltrami's score offers a welcome touch of nostalgia, wrapping the film in a familiar, blood-soaked blanket.
Yet, these strengths are often overshadowed by criticisms of the film's visual presentation, described by some as visually atrocious with halting editing. Ultimately, 'Scream 7' is largely seen as a missed opportunity, offering little new to the meta-horror landscape it once defined and primarily appealing to dedicated completists of the series.
When a new Ghostface killer emerges in the quiet town where Sidney Prescott has built a new life, her darkest fears are realized as her daughter becomes the next target. Determined to protect her family, Sidney must face the horrors of her past to put an end to the bloodshed once and for all.
