While the premise offers a familiar hook, the film's execution is widely criticised for its lack of creative storytelling and a convoluted narrative that fails to engage. Many critics found the script to be lifeless and shallow, with dialogue that often feels awkward and underdeveloped new characters who lack distinguishing characteristics.

The killer reveal, a hallmark of the series, is frequently described as nonsensical and one of the weakest in the franchise's history. However, the film isn't entirely without merit. Neve Campbell's performance as Sidney Prescott is consistently praised, with many noting her ability to elevate the material and deliver a strong portrayal of the iconic final girl.

Isabel May also receives positive mentions for her performance as Sidney's daughter.
