Ready or Not: Here I Come

Picking up immediately after the events of the first film, 'Ready or Not: Here I Come' plunges Grace back into a deadly game, this time with a larger cast of wealthy, power-hungry families vying for control. While the sequel expands the world and raises the stakes, it treads familiar ground, losing some of the original's shock factor. Samara Weaving once again delivers a fierce and engaging performance as Grace, anchoring the film with her blend of panic, grit, and dark humour.

The supporting cast, including Kathryn Newton as Grace's estranged sister Faith, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Shawn Hatosy, also lean into the film's over-the-top tone, providing entertaining, if sometimes exaggerated, characters. The direction by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett maintains a stylish and energetic pace, with well-executed set pieces and a relentless, bloody satire of the elite. However, the screenplay struggles to introduce significant new ideas, relying on a similar structure to its predecessor.

The sisterly dynamic, while intended as an emotional centre, feels somewhat underdeveloped and familiar. Despite these narrative shortcomings, the film's commitment to its chaotic, gory, and darkly comedic identity makes for a consistently entertaining, albeit predictable, ride. It's a sequel that delivers on its promise of more mayhem and more satire, even if it doesn't quite reach the inventive heights of the original.
