Alex Russell's directorial debut, "Lurker," offers a chilling and incisive look into the obsessive nature of fandom and the intoxicating, yet perilous, allure of celebrity. The film centres on Matthew (Théodore Pellerin), a retail clerk who masterfully infiltrates the inner circle of rising pop star Oliver (Archie Madekwe). What begins as a seemingly harmless infatuation gradually morphs into a dangerous obsession, blurring the lines between admirer and antagonist.

"Lurker" excels in its atmospheric tension and sharp direction. The cinematography, often rendered in grainy 16mm, enhances the unsettling mood, creating a palpable sense of unease that permeates the narrative. Théodore Pellerin delivers a standout performance, navigating the complex emotional landscape of Matthew with a compelling blend of vulnerability and menace, expertly shifting from pathetic to dangerous.
