Sébastien Vaniček's 'Evil Dead Burn' delivers a brutal and gory experience, standing as a bloody, intense franchise entry.
The latest instalment in the enduring 'Evil Dead' franchise, 'Evil Dead Burn', follows a woman seeking solace with her in-laws after her husband's abrupt death, only for the family to be overtaken by Deadites. The premise is familiar but effective, giving the film a solid emotional and supernatural framework before the horror escalates. Director Sébastien Vaniček's approach is forceful and visually confident, leaning into intense gore, brutality and visceral horror impact without losing the series' appetite for chaotic invention.
The cinematography and direction are among the film's strongest elements, creating a harsh, immersive atmosphere that keeps the threat feeling close and immediate. Production design and editing also stand out, helping the violence land with weight while maintaining momentum across the film's more punishing stretches. However, the narrative and character work are more mixed.
The plot functions well as a vehicle for extreme horror, but it can feel less substantial than the film's visual and shock-driven elements, with momentum sometimes taking priority over deeper storytelling. The characters are capably performed, and the cast help sell the escalating panic, though some roles remain relatively thin. Dialogue and narrative flow are serviceable rather than especially memorable.
The score has also drawn divided responses, with some finding it useful for tension and others less convinced by its impact. Even with those shortcomings, 'Evil Dead Burn' largely succeeds at what it sets out to do: provide an intense, uncompromising horror experience for genre fans. Its brutal energy, sharp visual style and gory set-pieces make it a memorable, if occasionally uneven, entry in the franchise.
Evil Dead Burn brings brutal, gory horror and sharp visual style to a bloody, uneven but memorable franchise entry.

Ikka delivers a morally complex courtroom thriller, offering engaging performances and some clever twists despite a tendency towards predictability and melodrama.
Honey Trehan's 'Satluj' is a powerful and unflinching biographical drama, driven by an exceptional performance from Diljit Dosanjh, that courageously uncovers a harrowing chapter of history.
Despite a compelling central performance and stylish visuals, 'Baby Do Die Do' struggles with an inconsistent and at times underdeveloped narrative.
